Annual Report 2024
Dear readers,
The year 2024 was once again characterized by challenging conditions – globally, socially, politically and economically. At the same time, it is clear: The ability to react flexibly to uncertainties without losing sight of the essentials is growing – also at Studierendenwerk Münster. Our aim remains to provide the best possible service for our students. This annual report gives you an insight into what we have achieved this year and where we are heading.
Strategically, we continue to focus on strengthening and cooperation: with the reintroduction of the “Talks on Cooperation”, which have been redesigned for this purpose, and a completely new management development program, we are underlining how important a modern and dialogue-oriented understanding of leadership is to us. These measures are complemented by targeted digitalization and sustainability projects, such as the commissioning of our new solar plant and the appointment of our new sustainability manager, with whom we aim to further strengthen our climate and resource-conscious focus.
We are also setting new trends in communication: With our newly launched TikTok account, we are addressing students in a contemporary and approachable way. In addition, we have developed a new radio advertisement to strengthen our position as a brand and employer in the region. And with the “Student Union Day”, we have created a new event that brings us into even closer contact with students – a great highlight!
The Student Accomodation area will be dominated by development and planning in 2024: the construction of a further residential complex on Gescherweg will be further concretized – the conversion of the Rudolf-Harbig-Weg 55-61 hall of residence is running in parallel. In this context, the hall of residence councils should also be mentioned, which provide important impetus for further changes as student representatives in the halls of residence.
We also made important progress in the catering sector: The introduction of modern self-service tills in the Mensa am Aasee and Bispinghof was a correct and important step towards digitalization and against the shortage of skilled workers. The Mensa Conference 2024, which promoted collegial exchange within the Studierendenwerk, was also professionally enriching. The Studierendenwerk can also look back on over 20 years of hotel operations with the Hotel agora – a great opportunity to look back and look ahead.
In the area of social affairs, we are increasingly focusing on information and proximity: With formats such as the application café, we provide guidance in an increasingly complex BAföG funding landscape. In addition, the Counselling – International Affairs – Culture (BIK) department has moved to our main location on Bismarckallee. 2024 was also a year of change in childcare: in addition to the closure of the Zwergenstübchen childcare facility, an interview with the director of our Kita Tausendfüßler daycare center shows how committed and loving our pedagogical team is in shaping the everyday lives of the little ones.
All in all, it is clear that Studierendenwerk Münster is continuing to develop – both internally and externally, strategically and operationally. My special thanks go to all my colleagues who, with their creativity, commitment and conviction, ensure that cooperation and success go hand in hand. I look forward to taking the next steps together.
