Four stars for our café from animal welfare organization
For the ninth time, the animal rights organization PETA has rated bistros, canteens and cafeterias of student unions nationwide in terms of their vegan offerings. New in the ranking: Hier und Jetzt, which was awarded four leaves!
Four leaves honor above all a good vegan-vegetarian offer: the café’s menu includes various vegan burgers and bowls, as well as baked potatoes later in the day. The offer is complemented by homemade cakes and vegan ice cream. A carbon footprint statement is also being planned.
About the ranking
Based on the responses from 29 participating student services, PETA awarded points in the form of green leaves (1 to 5, in half steps) and thus selected the most vegan-friendly canteens in 2025. One facility received the highest rating of five leaves, 16 facilities with vegan or vegetarian options achieved 4.5 leaves. Ten canteens received four leaves, five canteens were rated 3.5 leaves. There were no ratings below these categories in this year’s ranking.
