Your employer - the Studierendenwerk Münster

More than 90 years ago the Studierendenwerk Münster was founded by students as a self-help service for students. And it is still there today for students. Whenever you need help in matters of nutrition and affordable accommodation, student finances or advisory services and childcare, we are your primary contact in Münster.

For students – and also for everyone else, as our offer in the areas of event gastronomy and the hotel industry proves. You can find further information about the Studierendenwerk Münster here

The team of employees

Our approximately 600 employees from 22 countries have plenty to do. And they enjoy doing it. Because not only is what we offer the students good. The employees of the Studierendenwerk Münster also feel like they are in good hands. Perhaps the reason for this is that it is very easy to balance profession and family when you work for us.

Our strengths

We have been training people for more than 30 years. And you will certainly profit from our experience. We know what young people feel and what is essential for them. After all, we work first and foremost for students. Our know-how has helped us create a modern and up-to-date training that is oriented above all towards one thing: your requirements. We see ourselves as a kind of construction kit which you can use to build your own personal future.

Our trainers

Any training course is only as good as its trainers. Our trainers are highly qualified and know exactly what is essential for the first job. First of all, of course, you need sound training and you must pass the examination. But that you enjoy your work is also of high importance to us. And that your workplace is a trustful, open environment.

The Youth and Trainee Representatives

You’ve finished school and with your apprenticeship contract in your pocket, you are now at the Studierendenwerk Münster. You have a question, but you don’t want to speak to the trainer right away. Then the Youth and Trainee Representatives are the right people to talk to. There you’ll find young people who are your contacts and who are also undergoing training at the Studierendenwerk Münster.

  • Office manager (m/f/d)

Letters, statistics, phone calls, appointments, invoices, files, presentations … everything alternately, over and over again, or even at the same time. The days in the office are always different and you can design them, varied and often really exciting! The framework plan allows a lot, take your chance.

During your apprenticeship, you will get to know all the administrative areas one after the other and will find your permanent position. Are you more interested in juggling numbers? Then you might find yourself in accounting. Or do you like to advise customers and then organize requirements? We are one of Münster’s largest landlords and you can get involved there just as much as when applying for funds to enable students to study.

Office management assistant is the second most popular apprenticeship in Germany. With us, however, each and every individual counts and every trainee is different!

  • Specialist kitchen practitioner (formerly assistant cook) (m/f/d)

What a chef does is clear! But what does a specialist kitchen practitioner (formerly an assistant cook) do? To put it simply: you have your back to spare for the cook.

15,000 students come to eat with us every day, we also expect 800 guests every day in our cafés and we cater to guests at an average of 150 events a year. For this you have to cut vegetables, sear meat, stir sauces, cook rice pudding, bake cakes … As a team, you ensure that the food is served on time and that the guests are satisfied. At mealtime, there is often pure stress in canteens, canteens or restaurants. Then the kitchen management must be able to blindly rely on their helpers. You can certainly be relied on, right?

Practitioner in the kitchen is an apprenticeship for people with disabilities, which we carry out in cooperation with Learning Promotion e.V. You are special? We think so too!

Humans are creatures of habits. Even if he wants to discover new cities and foreign countries, he is still happy when he finds the usual food of the same quality in restaurants or cafés. So it’s a bit of a familiar home everywhere.

And that is exactly what defines the system caterer. The burgers of a chain are the same everywhere, the coffee of a well-known supplier tastes the same in all branches. Does that sound boring? However, the training to become a system caterer is anything but that! Because like no other she combines a commercial with a manual profession.

With us you work in different departments or areas of our bistros and canteens and also in the cafés: Bake cookies, prepare rolls, make salads and desserts, wok station or Schnitzelstrasse … Who is our customer and how do I deal with them? With us you will learn important processes that you need to know for your later job, for example as a bistro manager. The commercial part in our administration is just as important. How are the recipes created? How much staff is needed where? Is 160,000 kg of lettuce a year enough? In addition to the catering facilities, you also work with us in accounting, purchasing and the human resources department of the student union.

The training to become a system caterer is different every day. And every trainee is different and maybe not always a creature of habit.
