Facility management
Property tax return
To prepare the property tax declaration by the ZD department, the areas of all properties of the Studierendenwerk Münster had to be determined, separated into Accomodation or main and secondary usable areas.
Bistro Durchblick
On 17.05.2022, the Durchblick bistro was ceremoniously reopened after almost a year of renovation, which was carried out together with the SU and WWU. STW’s own contribution to the total renovation costs amounted to around €65,000; together with the kitchen equipment and new furniture, the total investment amounted to around €230,000.
Mensa am Ring: kitchen appliances replaced
Due to the many years of use of the existing kitchen appliances and the partial conversion to “cook and chill”, several cooking appliances in the snack kitchen on the 1st floor and the main kitchen on the 2nd floor had to be replaced by multifunctional appliances and 2 large “chillers” (blast chillers) had to be installed.
In the Mensa am Ring, a new sub-distribution board had to be installed to cover the increased energy requirements in the kitchen. In addition, a number of core drillings were necessary to supply the cooking appliances and chillers. As the new cable routes extended across all floors, greater attention had to be paid to fire protection.
After intensive preliminary planning by the building services department, the local installation was completed on schedule in the period from 01.08.2022 – 23.09.2022. The approved budget of € 300,000.00 was adhered to and even undercut.
Bistro PI
The modernization of Bistro Pi began in September 2022; after the installation of the new electrical, sanitary and refrigeration technology, the new kitchen equipment is to be installed in spring 2023 so that the bistro can reopen in summer 2023.
Seminar center
In the Bismackallee 11b building, the upper floor of which has been rented out for external seminars and conferences since 2005, the first floor has been converted so that the entire building will now be used as a conference center from September 2022. The expansion and consolidation of the conference rooms has optimized work processes. The administration of the GE department, which was previously housed in these rooms, moved into its new rooms on the second floor of the Mensa am Aasee in May 2022.
BIK department
Expansion of BIK to include basement rooms: The BIK (Counselling – International Affairs – Culture) department of Studierendenwerk Münster has been using the rooms on the first floor at Steinfurter Straße 67 for some time.
The basement rooms could not be used for events and smaller events for tutors etc. due to building regulations. By installing fire doors and creating a second escape route, a basement room could be converted into an event room for smaller meetings.
The corresponding building permit for the change of use was received by Studierendenwerk Münster at the end of 2022.
Student Finance Department (BAföG)
In the student finance department (BAföG), the outdated network infrastructure was upgraded from several decentralized network cabinets and only 30 LAN connections for the entire office area to the current state of the art. This included the construction of two new central network rooms with a fiber optic connection to the server structures, as well as the expansion to around 220 network connections in the office areas.
In addition, the necessary cables for the future installation of a WLAN network were also taken into account.
Densification Gescherweg 70-84
Due to the well-known problem in Münster of being able to acquire building plots for the construction of residential complexes that are attractive in terms of location and cost, densification on our own land is the most effective way of creating new living space.
After inspecting all possible plots, the Gescherweg 70-84 site emerged as a suitable location for the prompt implementation of densification.
In autumn 2022, a feasibility study for the realization of approx. 180-200 residential units was commissioned and presented in 2022. Once the structural feasibility study has also been examined from a financial perspective and appears feasible, the planning of such a residential complex will be continued in 2023. The federal “Young Accomodation” program with improved conditions, which will be valid from 2023, gives us hope that we will be able to create additional and affordable living space for students with new construction projects.
Underfloor container
After the Studierendenwerk gained its first positive experience with underground containers in 2013 as part of a pilot project at the Boeselagerstraße residential complex, they have since been installed in several residential complexes. 6 underground containers were added to the residential complex on Horstmarer Landweg in 2022. The containers make waste disposal more efficient and cost-effective. It also limits “waste tourism”, as only our students have a key to open them. Further locations are planned for 2023.
