Public relations
For the Public Relations department, 2022 was all about celebrating the Studierendenwerk’s anniversary. Just in time for the 100th anniversary on February 17, 2022, the previously created anniversary logo “100 years of Studierendenwerk – We for you” was used as the Studierendenwerk logo in all sublines of emails and on social media.
In front of Bismarckallee 5, three flags marked the anniversary year. To celebrate the anniversary, we made a short film and also took photos at the Aasee balls. To this end, we asked all colleagues to stand next to Claes Oldenburg’s balls. For the film, the colleagues formed a “1”, which then became 100 together with the two spheres from above. The film was recorded by a drone.
As part of the anniversary, a calendar was created with the help of a project group, which planned various events and campaigns for the months of February to December 2022. In line with the motto “We for you”, various offers were to be presented for all target groups, i.e. employees, students, universities, the media and also the local municipal and political public.
In addition to promoting all activities of the departments and management, specific actions by the Public Relations department included the Panini album, social media access, the anniversary brochure and intensified cooperation with the WWU Baskets Münster.
Panini album
To mark the anniversary, the Studierendenwerk was represented in the first Münster Panini album with two stickers – the Mensa am Aasee and the Boeselagerstraße residential complex – on the “Studying in Münster” page.
Getting started with social media
Thanks to an increase in the number of staff in the department with a full-time social media specialist and initially a student assistant, who was joined by two further assistants in October 2022, it was possible to start working with social media at the end of 2021.

As part of a pilot project with the REACH EUREGIO Start-up Center, organizational and expert start-up support was provided over several months in order to make the project a success. The decision was made to focus mainly on Instagram, as this is where the target group of students and school pupils as potential future students congregate. Facebook is only mirrored from Instagram.
The previous social media presences operated by various areas of the Studierendenwerk were bundled into one presence as Studierendenwerk Münster in order to achieve greater reach. It was decided not to delete existing channels, but to keep them for the time being and to refer to the main presence “Studierendenwerk Münster”. The social counseling presence (BIK) was converted into a channel for the tutoring project.
The Studierendenwerk Münster channel has developed very well in a very short time and had already gained 4,000 followers by the end of 2022 – this puts us in the top third compared to the channels of other Studierendenwerke in Germany.
Anniversary brochure
The anniversary brochure briefly and attractively reviewed the last 100 years of the Studierendenwerk. Based on an overview of the decades, with a mixture of current affairs and important events from the history of the Studierendenwerk, the brochure vividly conveyed how the Studierendenwerk changed from a self-help organization of students for students to a modern service company.
Cooperation with the WWU Baskets Münster
Studierendenwerk Münster has been supporting the athletes of the WWU Baskets for many years, for example in finding accommodation for international student players. Together with the management of the WWU Baskets, a cooperation has now been agreed that will initially run for 1.5 years. Several student athletes regularly eat together in the canteen, “together we are even more effective”, the club and the Studierendenwerk agreed. In addition to joint photo campaigns, advertising with QR code stickers on the canteen tables for Baskets games and promotional films for social media, the food truck may also be used at Baskets events.
